Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris

I guess I'm the opposite of most people. I read Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim (2004) first, then When You're Engulfed in Flames(2008) and now I'm reading Me Talk Pretty One Day (2000).

I didn't read the first book first, I read the middle book first and the last book second, now I'm reading the oldest book. So I guess I'm a little mixed up but it doesn't matter which order you read the books in, they're all good and they all stand alone.

There is a lot of humor in each of these short essays, although some might think it's a little twisted. So, I guess twisted goes well with mixed up.

Me Talk Pretty One Day is an especially good book for anyone studying a new language. If you've read any of David's books, add your comments here.

"A flying bell? That's just fucked up!"

Love Sedaris. Met him in Atlanta and he's just that great all the time.

My mom and sister love Sedaris! I bought my mom Engulfed in Flames for Christmas. One day I will read his books, everyone loves to read about other's family craziness!

He is SO funny. The story about him hoarding the Halloween candy had me laughing so hard I was drooling.

I read Me Talk Pretty One Day as my first Sedaris book. I lived in Germany and Austria for six years, and loved his take on the mixed-upedness that ensues when you're learning another language and living in that country. It was great. But what I loved most was his vivid and sordid description of his brother, nicknamed, the rooster??

Yeah, David Sedaris came to Portland on Halloween this past year. I wanted to go see him but had other plans. Maybe next time.
