Sprint Triathlon

So, I ran my first marathon at 50! Now, I need a new challenge. So, I've decided to take on the triathlon. For anyone who doesn't know what that entails it's a swim, bike, run - in that order.

A friend told me she's going to do a sprint triathlon and I was like, "What's that?"

So, she explained it to me.

It's not a super-fast triathlon (which is what it sounded like to me) maybe I think like a runner...a sprint is ... well anyway, it's a short distance tri. And, I thought, hey that sounds like a good way to train for an Olympic Triathlon.

Now, I don't know where they come up with these names but an Olympic Triathlon doesn't mean you're training for the Olympics - it's just a distance that's ascribed to the event, much like the sprint not being a sprint but a distance. Anyway, I digress (again).

Anyway, (again) I thought I'd share a site that tells people a little bit more about sprint tris: so if you, like me, are training for a tri...look here to find out more.

So, Saturday night my hubby's play came to an end. It was a fun run.

Sunday, August 26, 2012

What a way to use an old store hanger - or one you have that's meant to hold pants or skirts. Wish I would have thought of this about 30 years ago. But...better late than never.

Pick Your Poison

Cyanide or Arsenic? Cheers to the Cast and Crew!

Plus I made bone cupcakes. The bones are made out of marzipan rather than fondant because I don't care how you make fondant, it just doesn't taste as good as marzipan.

I thought this was cute for the weekend performances of Arsenic and Old Lace.

I think this will be fun with a touch of fear...full.

Tasty Tuesday

With Opening Weekend for my hubby's play, I felt like I had to do something for the cast and crew. So, what do you think I did? Yep, I baked cupcakes...

I tried to make them black frosting with white skeleton bones. I guess I need a little more practice. Oh well, I have another weekend to work on it ;D

REVIEW - Opening Night

It was a HOT one!!! The show was fun, the actors did a great job, the stage crew was on-spot and it was a wonderful weekend. was hot. At about 100 degrees in the cold Pacific Northwest, we were all toasty.

Here are a few shots from the play.

Here's my hubby in his stage makeup

Would you care for a glass of Elderberry Wine?

Thursday Thriller

My hubby is playing a serial killer in Arsenic and Old Lace. He's supposed to have had a botched plastic surgery on his face. So, we started playing with some liquid latex. Here's the fun we had.

Okay here he is normally - I know a little scarey ;)

But here he is putting the makeup on.

And here he is at his first attempt at stage makeup.

I know gorgeous :D It's going to take a little -- okay -- maybe a lot of practice but it sure is fun playing to look sinister and devilish ;D

Wateringhole Wednesday - Mocktails

Margaritas are probably my favorite alcoholic drink in the world but they are soooooo fattening. So when a friend told me about Crystal Lite Margarita mix, I thought, "Why Not?" Especially when my friend brought me one of the packets and said, "Here, try it--you might like it."

So, I did.

The only thing is that Crystal Lite says to add eight cups of water---waaaaayyyyyyy too much water. Then the drink will taste like LITEly flavored water. Don't follow the rules, just this one time. Listen to me, only add about four to five cups of water. Then add your shot of tequila and blend with ice.

Of course I have to salt the rim - because that's almost the best part - for me.

I guess I'm a bit like a horse, I love a salt lick - and I do...lick the rim to get every bit of that salty goodness.

I'm not saying it's as good as a regular sugary-sweet margarita but this is a good option if you, like me, are counting calories.

Tip for Tuesday - Repurpose old File Folders

I was popping around on Pinterest and I found this wonderful idea over at Authentique's Blogspot. We  all have manila file folders sitting around and what a wonderful way to repurpose some recycled folders.

The Bridge Pedal

Sunday was spent riding...and riding...and riding. I did the 8 bridge 24 mile bridge pedal. It was a lot of fun but we had bike problems along the way. Still we shared some great views of the city and came away with some fun pictures.

Too cool - or maybe I should say hot...

Recipe Contest

I was just over reading my cyber-friend's blog, The Happy Whisk, and found out about this contest. Now I'm wondering which recipe I should use...hum...what is your favorite recipe..a cake, a cookie, a cozy banana bread...?

Hum, just thinking of food...

Wednesday Watering Hole

Okay I'm not a big drinker by anyone's standard but this drink is supposed to be like a dessert drink. It's called Cabana Banana:

1 shot of 99 bananas (a liquor)
1 shot coconut rum
a splash of Baileys
Pour over ice and add milk or half-n-half to fill the cup

And this one is like cake in a cup or something like that

I had three of these this weekend:

T H E   S A L T E D   C A R A M E L   M A R T I N I

1 part Butterscotch Snapps
1 part Kahlua
1 part vodka
2 parts half-n-half

Prepare your martini glasses by wetting the rims and dipping in crushed seasalt. Pour ingredients over ice into a cocktail shaker, shake, then strain ice out and pour drink into glasses. Then drizzle caramel sauce over the top and around the rim....YUMMMMMILICIOUSNESS!

Happy Birthday to Kathryn

I had to make something to say Happy Birthday!

So here's what I made.

Cupcakes :D With marzipan creatures crawling around

And hopping up on the cakes and Kathryn likes pirates so why not a skull and crossbones to help celebrate that crucial 21st bday?...!
