Run Like Hell 2014

Pioneer Courthouse Square, Portland's Living Room, was crowded on Sunday, October 26, 2014 because it was the Run Like Hell, Halloween Themed race in downtown Portland. One of the good things about this run is that it helps support Molly's Fund which helps fight Lupus.

The Theme this year was Under the Sea and here's how we dressed to fit in with the theme.

And there were a lot of other people dressed for the race.
It's hard to take pictures when you're running ;D

We got rained on a little but it wasn't bad and we had a lot of fun.

Can't wait until next year to see what the theme will be.

Run Like Hell

October 26th is the Run Like Hell race. It's a fun run where people dress up according to a theme.

This year the theme is Under the Sea. So I am already working on my costume.

If you're interested, you can check it out here.

It's a fun way to stay in shape.

Last year the theme was super heroes and my husband and I went as the anti heroes: The Riddler and Poison Ivy:

Run Like Hell Portland, Oregon October 20, 2013

Today was the perfect day for a run. Not to hot. Not to cold (except at the start when we were waiting around for the emcee to say "Run Like Hell!")

I thought I'd just share some of the photos I took from the race. Now, remember some of these people were running by me so fast that they are only a blur... ;D

The Book Fairy was waving her wand before the start to give us all a little wisdom on how to run the race.

Then we all had to wait around for the start. So we were checking our phones to see what time it was and how much longer until the start.

And then it was nearly time to Run Like Hell. There were normal looking folk and super heroes, fairies, and even gnomes running around.
I saw all sorts of get-ups. I even saw Mario
Lots of people running together and plenty running on their own.
Tons of tutus and some that I didn't even know what they were.
Capes and masks of all sorts.
Little devils and even some angels

People were having fun on this Halloween-themed run.

Love the high-five at the finish line :D !

All in all, it was a great way to spend a day.

Run Like Hell Portland - 2012

Run Like Hell is a Halloween themed run that benefits The ALS Association of Oregon. My hubby and I signed up for the 10k (or 6.2 mile run) my sis and a friend signed up for the 5k. It is one of the funnest runs because people come out dressed in full Halloween garb. These year it was a Super Heroes theme. There were a ton of Bat Mans, plenty of Wonder Women and I saw quite a few Incredibles. But there were lots of other great costumes...including Santa Claus - now, that's a true Super Hero to kids.

This run isn't so much a race. Everyone is in a good mood--not so competitive as some runs. We all start snapping photos of each other and it's easy to make friends. I met another Poison Ivy - and we chatted about how we made our costumes ('cuz I'm too cheap to go buy one ;)

She had a great wig! No way could I run with a wig on. But then some people ran in full Big Bird costumes and kudos to them. It's not easy to run . . . let alone run with a furry-feather suit on.

Sonic and Tales made an appearance- true super heroes to gaming guys and gals. Just take a peek at some of these fun get-ups Portland had going on - in the streets of downtown Portland.

So, I hope y'all get a chance to Run Like Hell!

How to Make a Tank Top

We have the Run Like Hell Halloween Theme Run coming up. It's a benefit for ALS and we've been working on putting our costumes together. This year it's a Super Hero Theme and we're planning on Batman as our theme.

My hubby is going as the Riddler, I'm thinking of Poison Ivy and my sis is going to be either Catwoman or Robin.

Anyway, when you're wearing a costume for a run you have to remember not to over dress or you'll get too warm. So, my husband asked me if I could make the tee-shirt we were using for his Riddler attire into a tank top.

I thought, "How hard could it be?"

So I took one his favorite, old, worn out tank tops and used it as the pattern.

I used a sharpie to sketch the patten onto the tank top and cut it out (remember to allow for a seam allowance--I forgot).

Then I stitched up the raw edges. Soon we'll stencil the question marks on the shirt but this was the first step in the process.

Here's a pictorial history of how I did it.

I'll post the next step this week.

Run Like Hell

My lil sis and I ran in the Run Like Hell fundraiser to help fight ALS . It was a lot of zombified fun and it helped raise money for a good cause while helping us get heart healthy - what better way than to spend the Halloween season?

It must have been running with all those scary zombies that made me Run Like Hell. I don't know . . . but I do know my time was better and there were no downhill portions in this race. I cut my time from my last run, which was the Pints to Pasta run in August. I shaved 31 seconds off each mile.

31 seconds...I know it doesn't sound like much, but I'm working to get my time down and my endurance up - not an easy task for an old lady who runs in her "spare" time-like there is such a thing.

Anyway, I was happy bettering my personal best. And at my age, that's all I'm hoping for :)

ZOMBIES ARE THE HOTTEST

Zombies are hot right now. So for a green Halloween, why not go as a zombie? It's super simple to gear up for the apocalyptic aftermath and Halloween is the perfect time to get ready.

So, how do you zombify yourself?

Just add a couple spiders to your clothes, hair, and head. Use a little white face makeup and some black eyeliner for dark shadows (okay anyone who's as old as me knows about Dark Shadows and Barnabus Collins--I guess BC was my first fanpire love ;) but I digress)... So, some black eyeliner, white pancake makeup and some spiders.

How much simpler could a costume be? Plus, it will be a Green Theme Halloween costume ;)

I'll post some zombie photos this weekend to hell...p inspire you to new zombie heights, after I Run Like Hell - as a zombified old lady in the 10k Halloween Themed run here in Portland, Oregon.
