Tip for Tuesday - For Writers

A great writing resource is The Elements of Style by William Struck Jr. and E.B. White.

It's a short little book packed full with helpful tips, hints, and examples.

Here is one example of the types of advice listed in the book:

"Exclamations: Do not attempt to emphasize simple statements by using a mark of exclamation.

The exclamation mark is to be reserved for use after true exclamations or commands.

What a wonderful show!
Halt!

Margins: Keep right-hand and left-hand margins roughly the same width."

Have you found any great writing resources - please share them in the comments section. Thanks.

I really like this book, even though some of the "rules" have been questions the last several years (probably have been ever since it was published). I think for those who have no idea where to start, it's a great resource. (Also for anyone else--but more experienced writers will know which "rules" they can break.)

Kim, I'll have to put this book on my 'to buy list'. I totally agree about exclamation marks...although I have to confess that I too have been guilty of overusing them at times:-)

Great book, Kim! I can't think of anything better that's oriented towards style and usage. Love 'Bird by Bird' and 'Steering the Craft' though. Hope to see you at 5th Fri.
