Precycle - Earth-Friendly Friday

Why is it that we love to wait?

We wait in lines at the movies -- well, don't we?

We wait in lines at the grocery store, the gas-station, and even on the on-ramps to get onto the highway.

Well this is one time we can take control: We don't have to wait.

But while you're not waiting, don't waste.

We don't only need to recycle, reduce and reuse, we can go beyond the boundaries of "normal" and precycle.

We can all save natural resources, energy, and reduce our carbon emissions by simply thinking ahead. And, if we all do a little, it will do a lot.

Think green and save energy.

• HOW MUCH ENERGY DO YOU USE? It's pretty easy to find out. Simply call your local energy company and ask. Then ask for some helpful hints, tips and even money saving programs that might inspire you to think outside the box, the energy meter box.

• GET AN ENERGY AUDIT. Most energy companies will provide an energy audit or give you options for companies to choose between.

• GET RID OF OLD APPLICANCES. You might save more money than just on your energy bill. Sometimes you get a tax break for buying energy efficient appliances. It’s worth checking out.

BE PROACTIVE AND PRECYCLE!

Excellent ideas. I think talking to friends who don't recycle is a way to precycle as well. We've helped two couples get set up. That's four people not adding so much to the landfill!

and don't forget have a compost pile. Great way to get food for flowers and shrubs in your yard but feds insects that will help your garden.

Or go without! Grandma did! It's not so bad, really. One TV per house. Think of it. Clocks you wind instead of plug in. Garage doors you open manually.

Hi Kim! Thanks for stopping by my blog. Yours looks really interesting -- I'm always looking out for more ways I can help the environment and save cash in the process. I look forward to reading more of your posts! :)

This is a great blog for me to read. Recycling is 100% easy in my city (curbside and you don't even have to separate it), but I'd like to somehow pro-actively cut down on all the little plastic toys, etc. offered up to my kids at the dentist, school carnivals, as party favors, etc.

Always recycle, but need to reuse and reduce on a more active basis. Great idea!

I agree! Lots of things to think about re: waste and recycling. Like passing things on that we don't use any more to someone else. And since your thoughts started with 'waiting,' as writers we also wait for those wonderful acceptances :)
