Gummy Bears

Candy is candy...right?

Not always. Both Germany and the U.S. make Gummy Bear candy.

However, Germany has been doing it for a lot longer.
I was biased and thought the U.S. candy would be best but after tasting the two, I'd have to say that the German candy was the best. It's softer and more full of flavor.

Thing 1 and Thing 2

My sister and I went to the Sylvia Beach Hotel - a hotel for writers and readers. Every room has a writer's theme.

I asked my sis if she wanted to stay in the J. K. Rowling room.

No.

I asked my sis if she wanted to stay in the Jane Austen room.

No.

I asked my sis about the Shakespeare room.

Not a chance.

She said we HAD to stay in the Dr. Seuss room because it suits our reading level.

And one of the really cool things is the real fish swimming in the toilet bowl tank - I know, weird, but cool too.

Well then I had to make us a couple of shirts to wear on our weekend.

Shellac

I've heard of shellac on wood, floors and furniture. I'd never heard of it for fingernails. But now that I've had my nails shellaced, I don't ever want to go back to regular polish. This polish has lasted over two weeks and most polish only lasts a day or two for me.

Homemade Candles

You can reuse leftover wax at the bottom of a candle by simply melting it down, adding some store bought wax and dye for coloring.

This is an easy way to save a little money. Try it and let me know what you think.

ALS "Lou Gehrig's Disease"

This weekend in Portland, Oregon there was a walk to help raise awareness for the disease and my husband and I participated.

It was a dreary day in Portland, Oregon. Dark gray clouds rolled in early in the morning and then, without much warning, they burst open. Like an angry child throwing a fit, the clouds dumped their anger out on us, in one huge down pour. We were caught - without umbrellas or hats or even rain jackets. . . but then it was over. The sun peeked out and warmed us. We dried out.

It was just too bad the rain couldn't wait until after our walk for ALS. But that didn't put too much of a damper on the occasion. Portlanders are people who can deal with a little--or even a lot--of rain.

They came out dressed as the Flintstones, trees and even octopus creatures.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS, is a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. It's also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Every 90 minutes someone is diagnosed with ALS and every ninety minutes someone dies from ALS.

So, helping raise a little money for research was a nice way to spend a rainy day.
