Poetry Northwest and Word for Wednesday

My friend Jacqueline, me and my husband went to Happy Hour at the Blue Monk to meet up with loyal listeners (readers) of Poetry Northwest.

The Blue Monk has open mic poetry readings on Wednesday nights and the food is good too - which is always a plus in my chubby little brain. So we went to feed our minds with a little literature and our bellies with beer, wine and other libations.

It was a fun night out. If you're interested in subscribing to the magazine you can do that on-line or at Poetry Northwest, 4232 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97215

WORD: Entropy

Take a guess. I know there are a few of you who know what it is. Come back around 3:00 and I'll tell you.

Well, it's 3:20 on the West Coast. Don't worry, we looked it up.

It is a kind of measurement and that's all I'll say about it. (Hint: my dad was a scientist.)

If I remember right, doesn't the law of entropy have to do with natural chaos and disorder?

Stacy Nyikos said...

Chaos and disorder sounds far more interesting than anything I can think of! Maybe we should change its meaning just to make it more fun. Make a frindle out of it.

An open mic night sounds fun...I should see if there are any around here.
Entropy is that tendency for things to be falling apart...

Open mic night? That sounds really fun.

UGH, Kim, I am always humbled after my visits here. You stump me far too often!

I'm waiting for one of my sons to get old enough to drag to a reading--Mr. D would rather eat glass than go to one! Live theater is kind of the guy's limit.

I thought it mean to wither and die.

That sounds like a fun night, Kim!
You will have to enlighten me with the definition though...

I love seeing your Words for Wednesday, though I'm usually too late on most. I need to catch up on my blog reading.

I think attending an open mic would be fun--as far as I know, they don't have things like that here. A shame.

One of the neatest treats of returning to school has been attending the readings. Hollins was founded in the mid 1800s, before the Civil War and there is something magical about sitting in the large green parlor on Victorian couches listening to poetry. I think that's how poetry should be experienced - in pretty places surrounded by friends. Sounds like you had a delightful evening!

Thanks for playing along gals - Bish, you had an edge here.

I'm going to have to try the open mic myself - one Wednesday.

Amy: I'm thinking of taking a couple of classes, in my FREE time. :)
