EARTH FRIENDLY FRIDAY - AND ANSWER to Thought for Thursday

ANSWER TO THOUGHT FOR THURSDAY: According to everything I've read, the Advent Calendars originated in Germany. You can read more about them here.

NOW FOR EARTH-FRIENDLY FRIDAY:

I was shopping this past weekend with my gf, Des. And when we both bought some items, she told the clerk, "No thanks. I don't need a bag." And then she took the socks off the itty-bitty hanger and handed it back to the cashier.

I asked her what she was doing. She said, "I'd just throw it away and they can reuse it."

I never even thought about that. Des is sooo smart.

So, next time you're out shopping, don't get a bag and hand back any reusable packaging to the clerk. It will leave more room in your garbage can and help save resources at the same time.

Great tip...I never thought to do that either...Hubs will be so happy that I'm not bringing anymore hangers into the house...grin...

Great idea!

brilliant--I totally do that all the time. And I take things off hangers to save check out clerks the trouble. Brava to your friend!

I've noticed some clerks are wising up and asking if you want a bag. Most of the time, they stuff the items in a bag and hand it over before I have the chance to decline it.
Great tip - I try to leave the plastic hangers, too.

Yeah, I always try to be green but some days I learn something new.

You know, I bring my reusable bags to the grocery store, but don't think to when I go to places like Target or Kohl's etc...should do that...good tip on giving back the hangers etc!

Great post! I do that sometimes, but I'd like to do it more. I usually remember with hangers, since those are a pain and end up ripping the bags anyway. What good is a plastic bag if it has a hole in it?

I too, have noticed people asking if I want a bag. If it's just one or two items and I'm going right out to my car, I'll skip the bag. But obviously, if I'm going into another store, it looks a little suspicious. I usually carry big enough purses to keep groceries in, so a lot of times I use that, just as long as I have the receipt.

The battery power meter is right next to the wireless signal strength meter. With it comes the refractometer, a dropper to put water onto the prism, a calibration screw driver plus some instructions. The song’s melody is relatively simple by Joel standards.
