Okay, Saturday I ran the 10K Helvetia Half Drop - I finished!!! My time was slower than I would have liked but I'll do better next time. I ran under a friend's registration # because she injured her knee and couldn't do it and had already paid the entrance fee. So, the good news is I wasn't the last lady in the 30-34 age group. I was getting near the end though - so sorry to ruin my friend's running history (at least on paper) but at least I finished.
So Sunday I was pretty tired. I watched Paranormal Activity, which was a fun movie if you like creepy stories. It's a Blair Witch kind of show: filmed like a documentary but all fiction. That's the bad part though. It would have been soooooo much more interesting if it was based on some true phenomena but no it's all make believe.
Now I've got to go watch the season opener of True Blood - and believe me, this fanpire is so excited :)

Oh, and we were there for the True Blood premiere last night too. Fun start to the new season, I must say. We even had chilled bottles of True Blood O-Positive ready for the drinking. Yes, yes, I know. We're not authentic enough to nuke them to 98.7 . . . we're just fanpires like yourself, not the real deal. :)
I had so much fun watching Sookie and her friends - can't wait for next week - of course I've already read all the books,including her latest: Dead in the Family.

David: I'm going to train harder for the next run: Pints to Pasta. Really hoping to get my time down. Any hints on how to do it? I know you're a runner too.
My secret to cutting down my time is to train on a treadmill. This way you can increase the incline level to build up your stamina. Which, especially when you do run outdoors, can translate running more consistently at a set speed.
For instance, I run a 7 minute mile for about 3 miles straight, non-stop and without faltering. After 3 miles, I drop down to about a 7.5 minute mile for another 2 miles, then an 8.15 mile pace for every mile thereafter. I don't train for speed, but for long-distance.
This consistency is something I had to work on 6 days a week for about six months to achieve.
So if I were running a charity run or something similar, I wouldn't worry so much about speed. Just focus on the distance. However you have to make up that distance, just go for it. All you can do is increase your stamina, not speed.
But then, like I said, I'm a distance runner. :)
Thanks David - my sis and I really want to increase our speeds for our own personal bests - I used to be fast -but that was 30 years ago ;)
I'm going to start practicing on the treadmill - starting in July - right now I'm too busy with Luke coming home from UofO, "kids" out of school stuff :) but soon
