I LOVE the cartoon Non Sequitur! I think literally it means, does not follow. A comment, following a conversation that doesn't make sense, that's illogical.
All I can think of is non sequence so it would be something out of sequence?
I was thinking along the same lines as Christina...something not sequential...
I'm glad you posted this word...I only know of it in context (like people saying it to me "that was a non seqhoweveryouspellit")
But from what I understand...it means going off on a tangent or "that came out of left feild" Throwing something into the mix that doesn't exactly fit. Though I can see how it fits.
A crit partner said that about the ending to one of my pb mss when I first started writing and subbing. And I was down in the dumps because I'd already sent it in for a conference ms review.
It ended up with a big editor who LOVED THE SURPRISE ENDING!
I think I need to pull that ms out again!!!
