Monday Movie

I went and saw Ingredients the Movie here in Portland over the weekend.

It's a documentary about the dying art of farming and how some people have forgotten that they're growing food instead concentrating on mass production of commodities with little to no regard for how the quality effects mankind. Ingredients makes people think. We can pay more for food now or pay the doctors later.

One of the sponsors was Burgerville and I hate to even classify this company as a fast-food chain because it's really not. It's a company that provides medical and dental benefits to its part-time employees and provides healthy nutritious food - fast.

Ingredients reminded me of a book I read a few years ago called Fast-Food Nation.

I think we all need to remember what we put inside our bodies is going to effect our health and happiness in the long run. So, if Ingredients comes to your town, check it out.

You mean milk doesn't come naturally in a plastic jug that grows on trees? (I do my best to eat organic.)

Too true! After my brother and I had a long chat at Christmas one year about SuperSize me, I haven't been back to a McDonald's since. Couldn't believe I'd been putting that stuff in my body so willingly all these years. Why does it taste so good?

Sounds like an interesting movie!

Sounds a little like Food, Inc...another one I'm curious to see.

Will do...especially since these kinds of films usually land in the theatre that serves beer and wine...wait, is that OK for our bodies?!

Bish: Only if the milk is coming from plastic cows ;)

Stacy: Good for you - I say if we all take small steps - it will amount to one giant leap.

Adrienne: I'm going to have to check out Food, Inc.

Anita: I hear red wine IS good for us :)

I hadn't heard of this movie, but it looks interesting. We try to buy and eat our food in the least processed fashion possible.

Sounds like some good lessons!
We finally have a garden this year, and the veggies just taste better AND no pesticides! We need our farmers!

We try to eat nutritious food. That's why we grow so much of our own. I worry about all the hormones that are put into what we feed our kids. I do believe that is why 14-yr-old girls don't look like they did 20 years ago. What other effects is it having on them?

We were in a hurry recently, and Hubby hadn't eaten. He stopped at a fast-food joint and ordered a 'small'. The cup of soda is what we used to call jumbo!

I'll keep my eye out for the movie.

Makes me so glad we buy from local organic farmers.

I watched Supersize me...that was one eye-opening movie. I rarely eat fast food...but I'm very guilty of eating unhealthy foods.

I rarely buy processed foods anymore. As I've gotten older I've developed serious allergies to many of the preservatives. Supersize Me was an eye-opener for my family, too. My husband hasn't been to McDonalds since. I'd like to see Ingredients the Movie.

It's sad when our government wants to regulate farmers even more and limit farmer's markets. Seems like we should all be growing our own food these days.
