How to Make a Tank Top

We have the Run Like Hell Halloween Theme Run coming up. It's a benefit for ALS and we've been working on putting our costumes together. This year it's a Super Hero Theme and we're planning on Batman as our theme.

My hubby is going as the Riddler, I'm thinking of Poison Ivy and my sis is going to be either Catwoman or Robin.

Anyway, when you're wearing a costume for a run you have to remember not to over dress or you'll get too warm. So, my husband asked me if I could make the tee-shirt we were using for his Riddler attire into a tank top.

I thought, "How hard could it be?"

So I took one his favorite, old, worn out tank tops and used it as the pattern.

I used a sharpie to sketch the patten onto the tank top and cut it out (remember to allow for a seam allowance--I forgot).

Then I stitched up the raw edges. Soon we'll stencil the question marks on the shirt but this was the first step in the process.

Here's a pictorial history of how I did it.

I'll post the next step this week.

October Bday Cupcakes

There were three family birthday parties this weekend. And, so, of course I had to bake. I had to make . . . cupcakes.

Okay they're kind of silly but I had fun.

And they didn't scare anyone away :D

I think it's fun to bake/make cupcake(s).

And The Old Spaghetti Factory even let me bring them into the restaurant! So, we had cake and ice cream for dessert.

50 Shades - Who Will Play Christian?

If you've read the book(s), what do you think?

Who would make a great or even a good Christian?

I've been hearing--or maybe I should say reading--rumors about Ryan Gosling playing the devilishly handsome, and seriously messed up, Christian Grey. But....I think he's a little boy-next door for the part. And, I was thinking (and reading about) Vampire Diaries Ian Somerhalder as another contender for the part. Personally, and not that it matters, but I think he might make a better Mr. Grey. He seems a little darker and more devilish -- at least to me.

But there are other options being tossed around like

Matt Bomer

and Colin Eggelsfield

or even a Nordic God like Thor

What do you think? Who would you like to see play Christian Grey? And, do you have any other ideas/suggestions?

Checking Another Bucket List Item Off My List

I stood staring at the cold, jellyfish infested, waters before I took the plunge. Oh yeah, and where Soren told me, "Of course they have sharks...but they're only small sharks." But then what other creatures lurk in the warm water of the ocean. . . ?

Oh . . . but that's beside the point.

Have you ever wanted to swim in the ocean...between two countries...? Well, I'm definitely no bathing beauty...especially at 50! But... I thought it would be cool to swim in the waters between Denmark and Sweden (with Hamlet's Castle in the background). The only problem was the cold . . . it's my nemesis...so first I had to go for a run to heat up my body core. So, I got up at 6:00 a.m. to go for a run around Elsinore or Helsingor Castle. Running a loop around a castle..that's enough to get my blood pumping and after that it was a piece of cake...well, almost.

You can see (if you look closely) on my face that the water isn't warm but it is waaaaay warmer than the Ocean off the Oregon coast. Our water flows down from Alaska...it's hypothermia-frigid. But the water between Denmark and Sweden comes from the warmer waters of the North and Baltic Seas. So while it's not bath water warm, it is comfortable for swimming. And, since I want to begin training for the triathlon next June, I thought this would be a good opportunity to do some open water swimming. And I had to have my son come take the pictures for my proof...that I did it!
Once I'd made up my mind, I had to run for it...no looking back, and, like Nike says, "Just Do It!"

I really did it!!!
Now I have my photographic proof - even if I only look like a little dot in most of the photos (which I'm sure you all would appreciate...if you'd seen close ups, YIKES!) - that I swam in the ocean between Denmark and Sweden! Two checkmarks off my bucket list in one year: a marathon, and swimming between two different countries...What next?

Movie Review Monday - Resident Evil

I love Alice! She's the coolest. Better than James Bond, cooler than ice cream and hotter than jalapenos. There's no one--or thing--who can compete with Alice. She's the only human who the T-Virus bonds with - on a cellular level.

A zombie apocalypse is such a possibility...that we need someone as devoted to the cause as Alice ;D

Okay, maybe it's a little bit overplayed...I mean zombies going global...hum...

But I can't help it, I love Alice, I love Resident Evil and I love to watch tough women kick butt in movies.

I'm not recommending that you take the kids to see this show but..if you enjoy watching women play the leading roles in the action/adventure/competitive movies, this one is for you. My only complaint is that Ada is wearing a sleazy evening gown, slit up to her thigh, with stiletto heels as she wages war with Alice against the zombie throngs and Umbrella's guards.

Okay, Alice is wearing an S&M outfit suitable to Christian Grey's desires but come on...an evening gown...? It's just a little--okay, a lot--out of place. But setting that aside, I loved watching the two lovely ladies battle together. And maybe stilettos are a weapon, she could kick zombies in the head . . . but I'd have trouble even walking in those wicked shoes, let alone kick boxing but she made it look easy. So alls well that ends well. . . EXCEPT the world is still overrun by zombies and humanities only hope is Alice. . . again. Now, I can't wait for the next movie. . . even if it's only to watch Alice kick more zombie butt.
