Hamlet in the Lone Pine Cemetery

Dark and creepy. . . that's the way I like things so going to see the story of the Prince of Denmark at the Lone Pine Cemetery sounded like a fun way to spend a Friday night.

The Portland Actors Ensemble performed and watching the Ghost of the King of Denmark wander the graveyard was a fascinating way to watch the sun go down on Friday. This beautiful crypt was where I first saw the Ghost appear. He wandered through the gravestones making a most dramatic appearance to his son - Hamlet.

And the story just got more interesting from there. There was an actual dual with real swords. I don't think I've ever seen a real sword fight. My son said that was no big deal - because he fences - but hearing the metal clash against metal in the dimming light of an eerie setting like a cemetery was enough to give me a few thrills and chills.

And, the performance was free and, if you'd like to see it, the next showing is July 8, at 6:00 pm 39250 Pioneer Blvd, behind City Hall Plus an Encore Performance! Portland Outdoor Shakespeare Festival, July 21, at 7:00 pm Hosted by Post5 Theatre, 850 NE 81st Ave., Portland *ASL Interpreted performance.

Arsenic and Old Lace

Cary Grant was wonderful in the dark comedy Arsenic and Old Lace back in 1944 and now my hubby will be playing the part of Johnathan, the serial killing lunatic brother to Cary Grant's character in a local production of the show.

The play will be performed August 17-18 and 24-25. So, if you're wanting to see a humorous production and about a serial killing family, you'll want to check this out.

I'll post more as the production gets closer.

Movie Review Monday - BRAVE

Both my sons work with animation so whenever a film comes out that's been animated we go see it. And Brave was one of those shows. I loved the strong female character of Merida, and I loved her curly red hair. Plus the Celtic ties were fun but. . . overall the show was very predictable. Unfortunately there were no real surprises.

But. . . if you have young children, this is a fun show to enjoy with your kids.
